This is a place where the grocery aisles, bakery, and restaurant blend seamlessly, creating a mosaic of local flavors and traditions. The modest surroundings—with humble tables and pared-back décor—serve as a backdrop to authentic experiences shaped by the people who run the place and those who gather there. It’s less about polish and more about heart, with an unpretentious buzz that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem rather than a conventional dining spot.
The food here is intimate and thoughtful—each bite carrying the care of familiar recipes and fresh ingredients. Whether you’re drawn by the salsas that speak of vibrant, layered flavors or the hearty, comforting meals that invite slow, appreciative bites, the culinary offerings hint at stories of place and tradition. Beyond the counter, the friendly energy from staff and fellow visitors lends a genuine sense of community. The grocery side, with its surprising array of goods and baked delights, invites quieter exploration and a chance to bring a piece of this world back home.
For those eager to step off the beaten path and into a local favorite that balances everyday comforts with authentic moments, Tienda Don Miguel offers a quietly special kind of welcome. Heard about this place on a local foodies Facebook page. It's inside an unsuspecting grocery store in a strip mall, but don't let that fool you. Holy crap this is my new favorite Mexican place! You won't be disappointed

Officially the best burrito I’ve ever had!! The meat is juicy, the vegetables are fresh, and the rice is extremely flavorful. The salsas that come with are both super flavorful too. I’ve been telling everyone I know about this place, and I can’t wait to try more from their menu

Lovely people, wonderful food, the restaurant is top notch. I haven't tried the baked goods on the grocery side, but for such a small store they have quite a selection! The meat counter is awesome! They made this gabacho feel welcome!

Forty five minutes into our trip back to Mad City, from southern Indiana, my son and copilot Mayito was googling taqueria and yearning for good Mexican food found Tienda Don Miguel, and we decided to give it a try. Nothing spectacular at first sight, tables, chairs and bare walls. While glancing at the menu to pick our choices, there were but a handful of people in the dining room, but by the time we placed our order the place quickly filled up, just shy of the noon lunch hour. I ordered two carne asada and one chicharron in green sauce tacos, with a side of arroz y frijoles. Mayito got the chicken enchiladas en salsa verde plate....he couldn't tell if there were three of four enchiladas accompanied with arroz and frijoles, but all was washed down with Mexican cocas. I ever so carefully picked up the chicharron taco and the initial bite, hummm.....it was so tasty that it was hard to put down. Yum!! A few pieces of the carne asada were a bit charred on my other tacos, but just as tasty! I wasn't able to finish the side of arroz y frijoles but my son Mayito was able to clean up his plate... no problem! Don't be swayed by the less than 4 star reviews. This is definitely a hidden gem and I'm not getting paid for this review. However, my son told me not to write too glowing of a review because then lots of gabachos would know about the place, and it would be too busy, like beans in the pot…should we ever drop by again. This is a no liquor or-frozen margaritas, chip and diluted salsa kind of place. This is a counter order, pay and then they call your name when ready type of luncheonette. The total lunch bill was $29 plus tax. This is definitely the kind of eateries I look for while on the road and you should check it out!

Hands down the most authentic food I’ve had in Indiana. Love love the restaurant in the back & cannot wait to be back. Good customer service as well.
